As one approaches a small crack in the flat desert landscape a long set of stairs will lead you to the bottom of Lower Antelope Canyon. The temperature drops and the sounds echo off the 50-foot sandstone walls. As the desert sun shines through, a spot light is displayed peering down through the canyon walls. Centuries of heavy flood waters have created a maze that meanders through the narrow slot canyon bending through textured sandstone walls. These massive grey, red, and tan-colored slot canyons are a quarter mile long and less than three feet wide. Navajo Nation is constantly changing via flash floods that originate from many miles away.
